Three Keto Tequila Cocktails that Will Rock Your Happy Hour
I don’t live a true keto lifestyle, but I am big on keto and low-carb products. One thing I don’t want to go without is my tequila! I love putting together some keto tequila cocktails for happy hour with my hubby, and I’m sharing three of my favorites here. I’ve used my favorite tequila in all three. Espanita Tequila is exceptional, and I promise whether you’re an on-the-rocks tequila lover, or a mixed drink kind of peep, these keto tequila cocktails will rock your happy hour.
If you do follow a keto lifestyle, these drinks will keep you right on track, they won’t mess with your macros, and best of all, they will turn your next happy hour into a regular fiesta!
Let’s Get to Those Keto Tequila Cocktails!
But First…
In a previous post, I wrote about keto tequila drinks, I pointed out that tequila has absolutely no carbs, making it the perfect choice for keto cocktails. The trick is to take the usual fattening or sugar-laden ingredients out of the equation and to replace them with sugar-free alternatives.
Also, no matter how you slice it, alcohol still has calories, so don’t go nuts.
Below I’ve shared three of my favorite keto tequila cocktails. Get ready to rock your happy hour!
What Tequila Do I Use to Make My Keto Tequila Cocktails?
OK – you can’t make delish keto tequila cocktails without starting with the best tequila!
Espanita Tequila is my tequila of choice. I discovered Espanita when I did a collab with them for Instagram, and I immediately became a huge fan. I equally love the Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo, and below I’ve shared a favorite cocktail made with each of these premium-artisanal tequilas.
Espanita Blanco Skinny Margarita
Nothing like a refreshing margarita! I use sugar-free Tang (it’s sweet), but any orange-flavored water, or sparkling water, Crystal Light, or any sugar-free orange-flavored mix is good.
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Espanita Blanco
1 ounce of lime juice (fresh or bottled)
2 ounces sugar-free Tang (That’s 2 fluid ounces measured from a 16.9 ounce mixed serving of prepared Tang.)
1 tsp orange liquid stevia
1 wedge of lime (or slices)
5 cups of ice cubes
sea salt for the glass rim
Instructions:
Combine everything in a cocktail shaker, except for the lime wedges (slices) and sea salt and shake it up and set aside. Pour sea salt into a shallow bowl or plate. Take a lime wedge and run it around the glass rim and then dip it in the sea salt. Pour the margarita into the glass, add the wedge of lime to the edge, and serve.
Espanita Reposada Tequila Sunrise
I use sugar-free Monin Pomegranate syrup to make this classic cocktail. (The syrup is 7 grams carbs for a full serving, but I use just one teaspoon, making it very keto-friendly.)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces of Espanita Reposada
3 fluid ounces of sugar-free Tang
1 tsp sugar-free Monin Pomegranate syrup
orange slice for garnish (not keto – don’t eat it if you are being strict, but, I eat mine!)
optional 1/2-1 ounce fresh lime juice
a handful or more of ice
Directions:
Fill a highball glass with ice, add the sugar-free Tang and the tequila and lime juice, and then slowly add the sugar-free pomegranate syrup down the side of the glass. Wait for the syrup to settle at the bottom.
Espanita Anejo Old Fashioned
Ever have an old-fashioned? So sophisticated! Serve this cocktail in a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with the lime wedge.
Ingredients:
2 ounces Espanita Anejo
1/2 tsp agave simple syrup like Swoon.
2 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters
1 wedge lime for garnish
Directions:
Fill a rocks glass with ice and add all of the ingredients to the glass, mix, and garnish with the wedge of lime. Enjoy!
